Zometa Injection 4mg contains zoledronic acid, a potent intravenous bisphosphonate used in adults with advanced cancers affecting the bones. It helps prevent skeletal complications such as pathological fractures, spinal cord compression, and the need for radiotherapy or bone surgery. It is also used to treat tumour-induced hypercalcaemia, a condition in which cancer causes dangerously high calcium levels in the blood. Zoledronic acid binds to bone and inhibits osteoclasts, the cells responsible for breaking down bone tissue, thereby reducing bone loss and calcium release. Zometa must be prepared and administered by an experienced healthcare professional as an intravenous infusion over at least 15 minutes. The dosage and treatment interval depend on the indication and kidney function. Common effects include fever, flu-like symptoms, headache, nausea, fatigue, and bone, joint, or muscle pain. Kidney impairment, low calcium levels, and osteonecrosis of the jaw are important risks. Patients require hydration, kidney-function monitoring, calcium assessment, and dental evaluation throughout the treatment period.
