Metformin 1000mg and Vildagliptin 50mg in combination work synergistically to control blood sugar levels. Metformin primarily acts by reducing glucose production in the liver and enhancing insulin sensitivity in peripheral tissues. It inhibits the process of gluconeogenesis and decreases intestinal absorption of glucose. Vildagliptin, on the other hand, is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor, which increases insulin secretion from the pancreas in response to meals, and also decreases the production of glucagon, thereby reducing glucose output from the liver.
