Valam H Tablet (5/160/25 mg) is a fixed-dose combination antihypertensive containing three medicines in one tablet: amlodipine 5 mg, valsartan 160 mg, and hydrochlorothiazide 25 mg. It is prescribed for adults whose high blood pressure is not adequately controlled by one or two medicines, or as a convenient replacement for the same three drugs taken separately. Each ingredient lowers blood pressure differently. Amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker, relaxes and widens blood vessels. Valsartan, an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB), stops angiotensin II from tightening blood vessels and reduces salt and water retention. Hydrochlorothiazide, a thiazide diuretic, helps the kidneys remove excess salt and water, lowering blood volume. Together they provide stronger, smoother control than any single agent, and taking one tablet daily can improve adherence. Controlling blood pressure lowers the long-term risk of stroke, heart attack, heart failure, and kidney damage. The tablet is usually taken once daily at the same time each day, with or without food. Regular blood pressure checks and periodic blood tests for kidney function, potassium, and sodium are commonly advised during treatment. It should be used only as directed by a doctor.
