Ternelin 2mg Tablets are an oral skeletal muscle relaxant containing tizanidine (as hydrochloride). Operating as a centrally acting α 2 ​ -adrenergic receptor agonist, it stimulates pre-synaptic receptors within the spinal cord. This mechanism selectively inhibits the release of excitatory amino acids (such as glutamate and aspartate) from spinal interneurons, reducing the polysynaptic reflex activity responsible for muscle hypertonia. Consequently, it effectively diminishes muscle spasticity and painful spasms without significantly compromising overall muscle strength. Clinically, Ternelin 2mg is indicated for managing increased muscle tone and painful conditions resulting from chronic neurological disorders (like multiple sclerosis, spinal cord injury, or stroke) and acute musculoskeletal disorders of the spine. The standard starting dose for acute spasms is 2mg to 4mg administered three times daily, titrated cautiously based on patient response. Because food significantly increases bioavailability, it must be taken consistently either always with or always without food. It is strictly contraindicated with potent CYP1A2 inhibitors (such as ciprofloxacin or fluvoxamine) due to life-threatening hypotension risks. Common side effects include somnolence, dizziness, dry mouth, fatigue, and dose-dependent hypotension.
