Tazopip 2.25g IV Injection is a prescription, broad-spectrum antibacterial combination containing Piperacillin Sodium 2 g and Tazobactam Sodium 0.25 g. It belongs to the antipseudomonal penicillin and beta-lactamase inhibitor class. Piperacillin exerts its bactericidal effect by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. Tazobactam, a structural beta-lactamase inhibitor, binds to and inactivates many plasmid- and chromosomally-mediated beta-lactamase enzymes, successfully preventing the enzymatic degradation of piperacillin and broadening its target range. This intermediate-dose formulation is clinically indicated for moderate to severe systemic infections caused by susceptible organisms, including complicated urinary tract infections, intra-abdominal sepsis, gynecological infections, community-acquired pneumonia, and skin structure infections. It is also utilized for precise, weight-based pediatric dosing in children aged 2 to 12 years presenting with serious intra-abdominal infections. Presented as a sterile, lyophilized powder, the vial is reconstituted and further diluted with a compatible calcium-free fluid like 0.9% Sodium Chloride. It must be administered via intermittent intravenous infusion over 30 minutes, or as an extended infusion over 4 hours. It is strictly contraindicated in individuals with a history of severe immediate hypersensitivity to penicillins, cephalosporins, or other beta-lactam agents.
