Stanem Injection 500mg

Stanem 500mg Injection is an ultra-broad-spectrum, injectable carbapenem antibiotic combination containing imipenem (500mg) and cilastatin (500mg) as a sterile powder for intravenous infusion. Imipenem binds irreversibly to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), disrupting peptidoglycan cell wall synthesis to cause rapid bacterial lysis. Because imipenem is rapidly degraded by dehydropeptidase-I in human kidneys, it is co-formulated with cilastatin—a specific, reversible renal dehydropeptidase inhibitor—to prevent metabolism and ensure therapeutic urinary drug levels. Clinically, Stanem 500mg is reserved for severe, complex, or polymicrobial infections, including nosocomial pneumonia, complicated intra-abdominal sepsis, advanced urinary tract infections, septicemia, and bone infections caused by highly resistant pathogens. Administration is strictly restricted to intravenous (IV) infusion over 20 to 30 minutes, typically scheduled every 6 to 8 hours. It must never be given as a rapid IV push. It is strictly contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to carbapenems. Dosage modifications are mandatory for patients with renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 70ml/min). Common adverse reactions include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, localized thrombophlebitis, and an elevated risk of central nervous system toxicities, including seizures.
