Samka 30mg Tablets, when confirmed to contain tolvaptan, are a prescription medicine used under specialist supervision for selected cases of low blood sodium, known as hyponatremia. Tolvaptan belongs to a group of medicines called vasopressin receptor antagonists. It helps the kidneys remove excess water through urine, increasing the concentration of sodium in the blood. This treatment may be considered for certain patients with inappropriate antidiuretic hormone secretion or heart failure associated with low sodium. It is not suitable for every cause of hyponatremia and does not replace emergency treatment when sodium needs urgent correction. Treatment for hyponatremia must be started or restarted in hospital, where sodium levels and fluid balance can be closely monitored. Correcting sodium too quickly can cause serious neurological injury. Possible side effects include thirst, dry mouth, increased urination, and dehydration. Tolvaptan can also cause liver injury.
