Rismek Tablet 4mg is an atypical second-generation antipsychotic medication containing risperidone (4mg). It works by acting as a selective, high-affinity antagonist at central dopamine and serotonin receptors in the brain. By blocking receptors along with receptors, it reduces dopamine overactivity in the mesolimbic pathway while dampening the extrapyramidal side-effect burden typically seen with first-generation agents. This dual antagonism helps stabilize mood, correct neurochemical imbalances, improve disorganized thinking, and manage positive and negative symptoms of psychiatric disorders. Clinically, Rismek 4mg is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia, the short-term management of acute manic or mixed episodes associated with Bipolar I disorder, and the symptomatic management of irritability and aggression in autism spectrum disorderThe standard adult dosage for schizophrenia or bipolar mania typically ranges between 2mg to 6mg daily, with a 4mg daily dose representing a common target therapeutic dose. It can be taken orally once or twice daily, with or without food, as directed by a physician.It is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to risperidone.
