Prevent 500mg Tablet contains tinidazole, a nitroimidazole antimicrobial used to treat infections caused by protozoa and anaerobic bacteria. It works inside these microorganisms by damaging their DNA, preventing growth to eliminate the infection. Doctors may prescribe Prevent for intestinal amoebiasis, amoebic liver abscess, giardiasis, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, or anaerobic bacterial infections. Take Prevent as prescribed, usually with food to reduce stomach discomfort. The dose and duration vary according to the infection, age, and history. Swallow the tablet with water and complete the course. Do not share it or use it for an undiagnosed illness. Sexual partners may require treatment for trichomoniasis to prevent reinfection. Side effects include nausea, stomach pain, vomiting, headache, dizziness, constipation, weakness, and a metallic or bitter taste. Avoid alcohol and products containing alcohol or propylene glycol during treatment and for three days after the final dose, as the combination may cause cramps, nausea, flushing, or vomiting.
