Unlike medications that force the pancreas to secrete more insulin, Pozemet pairs pioglitazone (15mg), an insulin sensitizer, with metformin hydrochloride (500mg), a biguanide. Pioglitazone targets insulin resistance by making muscle and fat tissues more responsive to existing insulin. Metformin works complements this by significantly decreasing the amount of glucose the liver produces and releases, while slowing carbohydrate absorption in the intestines.
