Phenobarbitone 30mg Tablet contains phenobarbitone (phenobarbital), a long-acting barbiturate anticonvulsant and central nervous system depressant. It is primarily prescribed for the management and prevention of certain types of seizures and epilepsy. It works by reducing excessive electrical activity in the brain, helping control abnormal neuronal activity that can lead to seizures. DailyMed Phenobarbitone has a long history of clinical use as an anticonvulsant. Because it also produces sedative effects, patients may experience sleepiness or reduced alertness, particularly when treatment is started or the dose is changed. Treatment should be individualized by a doctor according to the patient's condition, response, age, and other medications. Phenobarbitone can cause physical dependence with prolonged use. It should therefore not be discontinued suddenly after regular treatment, as abrupt withdrawal can cause serious symptoms, including worsening or recurrence of seizures.
