Orlis 120mg Capsules contain orlistat, a potent, peripherally acting pancreatic and gastric lipase inhibitor prescribed for long-term obesity management and weight maintenance. Operating locally within the gastrointestinal tract lumen, it covalently binds to active lipase enzymes, preventing the hydrolysis of dietary fats into absorbable fatty acids. Consequently, approximately 30% of ingested fat passes through the intestines undigested, effectively lowering net caloric intake. Orlis is indicated for adults with a Body Mass Index (BMI) ≥30 kg/m 2 , or ≥27 kg/m 2 alongside comorbidities like type 2 diabetes or hypertension. The standard regimen is one capsule three times daily, taken with water immediately before, during, or up to one hour after each main fat-containing meal. Doses should be omitted if a meal is skipped or fat-free. Due to blocked fat absorption, Orlis can cause gastrointestinal side effects like oily spotting, flatulence with discharge, fecal urgency, and steatorrhea. It can also impair the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K); therefore, a daily multivitamin should be taken two hours apart from dosing, typically at bedtime.
