Nassa Tablet 30mg is a tetracyclic antidepressant medication containing mirtazapine (30mg). It acts as a noradrenergic and specific serotonergic antidepressant (NaSSA). Its mechanism involves antagonizing central presynaptic $\alpha_2$-adrenergic autoreceptors and heteroreceptors, thereby disinhibiting and enhancing central noradrenergic and $5\text{-HT}_1$-mediated serotonergic neurotransmission. Additionally, it selectively blocks postsynaptic $5\text{-HT}_2$ and $5\text{-HT}_3$ receptors, directing serotonergic activity specifically toward $5\text{-HT}_{1A}$ pathways, which reduces anxiety and sexual dysfunction commonly associated with non-selective agents. It also exhibits high affinity as a histamine $H_1$ receptor antagonist, contributing to its marked sedative and appetite-stimulating properties, while possessing negligible anticholinergic activity.Clinically, Nassa 30mg is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults, particularly in patients experiencing associated insomnia, anxiety, or significant weight loss. The standard starting dose is 15mg to 30mg taken orally once daily, preferably at bedtime due to its sedative effects. The dose may be titrated up to 45mg daily based on clinical response. It is contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to mirtazapine or concurrent use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs). Common side effects include somnolence, increased appetite, weight gain, dry mouth, and dizziness.
