Merpen 1gm Injection

Merpen 1g Injection is an ultra-broad-spectrum, sterile intravenous carbapenem antibiotic containing meropenem (as trihydrate). It operates by penetrating the bacterial cell wall and binding irreversibly to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby disrupting peptidoglycan synthesis and causing rapid bacterial cell lysis. Its unique molecular structure resists degradation by human renal dehydropeptidase-I, removing any clinical need for co-administration with a protective inhibitor. Clinically, Merpen 1g is reserved for severe, complicated, or multi-drug resistant infections in adults and pediatric patients. Primary indications include hospital-acquired pneumonia, complicated intra-abdominal sepsis, severe gynecological infections, complicated skin and soft tissue structures, complicated urinary tract infections, and acute bacterial meningitis. It is administered strictly via intravenous (IV) bolus injection over 3 to 5 minutes or as an IV infusion over 15 to 30 minutes, usually scheduled every 8 hours. The drug is strictly contraindicated in patients with established hypersensitivity to meropenem or other carbapenems, and requires extreme caution in individuals with histories of anaphylactic penicillin allergies. Dosage modifications are mandatory in patients with renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 50ml/min). Common adverse reactions include diarrhea, injection-site phlebitis, nausea, vomiting, headache, and a potential risk of central nervous system toxicity or seizures.
