Masacol Tablets 400mg

Masacol 400mg Tablets are an oral, bowel-specific aminosalicylate anti-inflammatory formulation containing mesalazine. The tablet features a specialized pH-dependent, delayed-release coating designed to resist gastric acidity, minimizing systemic absorption in the upper digestive tract. This allows the active drug to safely reach the terminal ileum and colon, where it acts topically to inhibit cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase pathways, reducing pro-inflammatory leukotrienes and prostaglandins directly within the intestinal mucosa. Clinically, Masacol 400mg is indicated for the acute treatment of mild-to-moderate exacerbations of ulcerative colitis, the long-term maintenance of ulcerative colitis remission, and the maintenance of remission in Crohn's ileo-colitis. Tablets must be swallowed whole with water before meals and never crushed or chewed. It is strictly contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to salicylates, or severe hepatic or renal impairment. Common adverse effects include headache, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, nausea, flatulence, and transient skin rash.
