M Folate OD Tablets are an orally active, biologically active folate formulation containing L-methylfolate (as 5-methyltetrahydrofolate / 5-MTHF). Unlike synthetic folic acid, L-methylfolate is the active metabolite directly utilized by the body, bypassing the multi-step enzymatic conversion pathway mediated by the MTHFR (methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase) enzyme. It acts as a essential methyl donor in one-carbon transfer reactions necessary for DNA synthesis, cellular repair, erythropoiesis, and the remethylation of homocysteine into methionine. This pathway maintains vascular endothelial health, supports neurodevelopment, and lowers circulating hyperhomocysteinemia. Clinically, M Folate OD is indicated for preconception and pregnancy supplementation to prevent neural tube defects (NTDs), management of hyperhomocysteinemia, treatment of folate deficiency megaloblastic anemia, and as an adjunctive therapy to antidepressants in major depressive disorder, particularly for individuals with MTHFR genetic polymorphisms.
