Lumark Tablet 500mg

Lumark 500mg Tablets contain levetiracetam (500mg), a broad-spectrum antiepileptic agent chemically distinct from conventional anticonvulsants. It operates via a unique mechanism by selectively binding to the synaptic vesicle protein 2A (SV2A) in central nervous system presynaptic terminals. This binding inhibits presynaptic exocytosis and vesicular neurotransmitter release, thereby suppressing abnormal hypersynchronous neuronal firing without directly disrupting normal baseline synaptic transmission or interfering with GABAergic systems. Clinically, Lumark 500mg is indicated for monotherapy or adjunctive therapy in managing partial-onset seizures (with or without secondary generalization), myoclonic seizures in juvenile myoclonic epilepsy, and primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures in patients with epilepsy. The typical initial adult dosage is 500mg taken orally twice daily, which may be titrated under clinical supervision up to 1500mg twice daily based on clinical response and tolerability. Tablets must be swallowed whole with water, with or without food. Abrupt discontinuation must be avoided to prevent rebound seizure activity. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to levetiracetam or pyrrolidone derivatives. Common side effects include somnolence, fatigue, dizziness, headache, nasopharyngitis, and behavioral alterations such as irritability or anxiety.
