Levofin Tablets 250mg

Levofin 250mg Tablets are an oral, broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibacterial formulation containing levofloxacin (as hemihydrate), the optically active S-enantiomer of ofloxacin. It exerts a potent bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial topoisomerase IV and DNA gyrase (topoisomerase II). These enzymes are critical for bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair, and supercoiling. By disrupting their function, Levofin arrests the bacterial replication cycle, leading to rapid cellular autolysis. It exhibits extensive in vitro activity against a diverse range of Gram-positive, Gram-negative, and atypical pathogens. Clinically, Levofin 250mg is indicated for treating mild-to-moderate systemic bacterial infections. These include uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs), acute pyelonephritis, chronic bacterial prostatitis, acute bacterial sinusitis, acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, and uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections. The standard adult dosage is 250mg administered orally once every 24 hours. Tablets should be swallowed whole with plenty of fluids and can be taken independently of food, but never concurrently with multivalent cation-containing antacids (iron, zinc, magnesium). It is strictly contraindicated in patients with a history of fluoroquinolone-induced tendinitis or hypersensitivity. Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, headache, insomnia, and dizziness.
