Lastolip 10mg is a lipid-regulating medication containing Atorvastatin Calcium, a selective, competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase. By inhibiting this rate-limiting enzyme in hepatic cholesterol biosynthesis, Lastolip decreases intracellular cholesterol pools and upregulates low-density lipoprotein (LDL) surface receptors on hepatocytes. This dual mechanism significantly enhances the clearance of circulating LDL-C, total cholesterol, triglycerides, and apolipoprotein B, while moderately elevating high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C) levels.It is indicated for primary hyperlipidemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia as an adjunct to a low-fat diet and lifestyle modifications. Additionally, Lastolip provides primary and secondary cardiovascular protection by reducing the incidence of myocardial infarction, stroke, angina, and coronary revascularization procedures in patients with elevated cardiovascular risk factors.The usual starting dose is 10mg taken orally once daily at any time of day, with or without food. Common side effects include myalgia, arthralgia, constipation, flatulence, headache, and mild transient elevations in serum transaminases. It is strictly contraindicated in active liver disease, unexplained persistent hepatic enzyme elevations, pregnancy, and lactation.
