Jemvesta Tablet 10mg is an oral antidiabetic and cardiovascular medication containing empagliflozin (10mg), a potent and selective sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It acts in the proximal renal tubules of the kidneys by blocking SGLT2 proteins responsible for filtering and reabsorbing the majority of tubular glucose. By inhibiting glucose reabsorption, it lowers the renal threshold for glucose, promoting glucosuria and natriuresis. This mechanism effectively reduces blood glucose levels, promotes modest weight loss through urinary calorie loss, and lowers intravascular volume and blood pressure without relying on pancreatic beta-cell function or insulin secretion.Clinically, Jemvesta 10mg is indicated as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adult patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, as well as to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death and heart failure hospitalizations in adults with heart failure or chronic kidney disease.The standard recommended starting dosage is 10mg once daily in the morning, taken orally with or without food. Tablets must be swallowed whole with water.It is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment ($eGFR < 20\text{ mL/min/1.73m}^2$), end-stage renal disease, or known hypersensitivity to empagliflozin. Common side effects include urinary tract infections, mycotic genital infections, polyuria, volume depletion, and thirst.
