Janumet Tablets 50mg/1000mg combine sitagliptin and metformin hydrochloride to help control blood glucose in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Sitagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that increases incretin hormone activity, helping the pancreas release insulin when blood sugar is elevated and reducing glucose production by the liver. Metformin is a biguanide that decreases hepatic glucose production, reduces intestinal glucose absorption, and improves the body’s sensitivity to insulin. Janumet is used alongside a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and appropriate glucose monitoring when treatment with one medicine alone is insufficient. Take it exactly as prescribed, usually with meals to reduce stomach-related side effects. Common effects include nausea, diarrhoea, abdominal discomfort, gas, headache, or reduced appetite. Low blood sugar is more likely when Janumet is combined with insulin or a sulfonylurea. Rare but serious risks include lactic acidosis, pancreatitis, severe allergic reactions, and worsening kidney function. Seek urgent medical attention for severe persistent abdominal pain, breathing difficulty, unusual weakness, repeated vomiting, or extreme drowsiness. Kidney function should be assessed before and during treatment. Janumet is not intended for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis and must be used under medical supervision.
