Idarubicin HCl AHP 10mg Injection contains idarubicin hydrochloride, a potent anthracycline chemotherapy medicine used mainly as part of combination treatment for acute myeloid leukaemia and selected other blood cancers. Idarubicin enters cancer cells and interferes with topoisomerase II and DNA function, preventing the cells from multiplying and leading to cell death. It must be administered intravenously by trained oncology professionals in a facility equipped to manage chemotherapy complications. The dose is calculated according to body surface area, treatment protocol, blood counts, liver and kidney function, and previous exposure to anthracyclines. Major risks include severe bone-marrow suppression, serious infections, bleeding, heart damage, and tissue injury if the medicine leaks outside the vein. Common adverse effects include nausea, vomiting, mouth ulcers, hair loss, diarrhoea, fever, tiredness, and temporary red-coloured urine. Complete blood counts, heart function, liver function, and kidney function require monitoring before and during treatment. Inform the oncology team about heart disease, previous chest radiotherapy, infections, liver or kidney problems, and all previous chemotherapy. Seek urgent medical attention for fever, breathing difficulty, chest pain, unusual bleeding, severe weakness, or pain and swelling at the injection site.
