ICEF-DS 200mg/5ml Oral Suspension (30ml) is a double-strength ("DS"), broad-spectrum, third-generation cephalosporin antibacterial pediatric formulation containing cefixime. It operates by binding to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the internal bacterial cell membrane, which halts peptidoglycan cell wall synthesis and triggers rapid osmotic lysis and bacterial cell death. Clinically, this oral suspension is indicated for treating mild-to-moderate bacterial infections in pediatric patients aged 6 months or older. Primary indications include acute otitis media, acute bacterial sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis caused by susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. The standard pediatric dosage is calculated by body weight (typically 8 mg/kg daily, given either as a single dose or split into two divided doses every 12 hours). The dry powder must be precisely reconstituted with cooled, boiled water to the 30ml fill mark, shaken vigorously, and can be stored at room temperature or in a refrigerator. Any remaining portion must be discarded after 14 days. It is strictly contraindicated in patients with established hypersensitivity to cefixime, other cephalosporins, or those with a history of severe immediate hypersensitivity to penicillins. Common adverse effects include diarrhea, loose stools, abdominal pain, nausea, and minor skin rashes.
