ICEF 400mg Capsules are an oral, high-potency, broad-spectrum third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic containing cefixime. It operates by binding irreversibly to specific penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located on the internal bacterial cell membrane. This binding stops peptidoglycan cell wall synthesis during active bacterial multiplication, triggering rapid osmotic lysis and bacterial cell death.Clinically, ICEF 400mg is indicated for adults and adolescents weighing 40kg or more to treat mild-to-moderate bacterial infections. Primary indications include acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, acute bacterial sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and uncomplicated cervical or urethral gonorrhea caused by susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. The standard adult dosage is 400mg administered orally once daily, or divided into 200mg every 12 hours, taken with or without food. It is strictly contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cefixime, other cephalosporins, or those with a history of severe immediate hypersensitivity reactions to penicillins. Dosage modifications are mandatory in severe renal impairment when creatinine clearance falls below 20ml/min. Common adverse effects include diarrhea, loose stools, nausea, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, and mild dermatological rash.
