Omeprazole 40mg IV Injection is a prescription anti-ulcer medication containing Omeprazole Sodium , a potent proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It effectively suppresses gastric acid production by selectively and irreversibly inhibiting the enzyme system (the acid pump) located on the secretory surface of the stomach's parietal cells. By turning off these active pumps, it shuts down the final step of gastric acid secretion.This intravenous formulation serves as a critical short-term alternative for hospitalized or fasting adults when oral administration is clinically unfeasible. Key therapeutic indications include the treatment and healing of severe erosive reflux esophagitis, active gastric and duodenal ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and the reduction of upper gastrointestinal rebleeding risk following therapeutic endoscopy.Presented as a sterile, lyophilized powder, each single-dose vial is typicallyreconstituted with 10ml of a compatible solvent or 0.9% Sodium Chloride. It must be administered as a slow intravenous injection over 3 to 5 minutes, or further diluted for an I.V. infusion over 20 to 30 minutes. Common adverse profiles include temporary headache, dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, and injection site irritation. Concomitant use with nelfinavir or atazanavir is strictly contraindicated.
