Omeprazole 40mg Capsules are a high-strength, prescription oral proton pump inhibitor (PPI) designed for the treatment and long-term management of severe gastric acid-related disorders. It exerts its therapeutic effect by selectively and irreversibly inhibiting the enzyme system (the proton pump) located on the secretory surface of the stomach's parietal cells. By inactivating these pumps, it blocks the final pathway of gastric acid production, substantially decreasing stomach acidity.This 40mg therapeutic dose is clinically indicated for healing severe or refractory erosive esophagitis, treating active benign gastric ulcers, and managing hypersecretory conditions such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is also utilized in patients with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) who show an inadequate response to lower-dose PPI regimens.Administered orally once daily, ideally 30 to 60 minutes prior to breakfast, common adverse effects include headache, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, and flatulence.
