Omeprazole 20mg Capsules are a widely prescribed, oral proton pump inhibitor (PPI) designed to manage and treat gastric acid-related disorders. It exerts its therapeutic effect by selectively and irreversibly binding to the ATPase enzyme system (commonly referred to as the proton pump) located on the secretory surface of the gastric parietal cells. By turning off these active pumps, it suppresses the final step of stomach acid production, significantly reducing gastric acidity.This standard 20mg dose is clinically indicated for the healing and maintenance of erosive esophagitis, the treatment of active duodenal and benign gastric ulcers, the management of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), and as part of a combination regimen for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection.Administered orally once daily—ideally 30 to 60 minutes before the first meal of the day—common adverse reactions include headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, flatulence, and dizziness. Long-term or high-dose usage requires clinical monitoring due to class-associated risks of hypomagnesemia, vitamin B12 deficiency, bone fractures, and Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea.
