Duricef 500 mg Capsules are a prescription antibiotic containing cefadroxil, a first-generation cephalosporin used to treat certain bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms. Doctors may prescribe it for urinary tract infections, skin and soft-tissue infections, and streptococcal throat or tonsil infections. Cefadroxil works by interfering with bacterial cell-wall formation, weakening the bacteria and helping eliminate the infection. It does not work against viral illnesses such as colds or influenza. Take Duricef exactly as prescribed and complete the full treatment course, even if symptoms improve earlier. The capsules may be taken with or without food; taking them with food may help reduce nausea or stomach discomfort.
