Dosik Tablet 10 mg contains haloperidol, a first-generation (typical) antipsychotic. It is prescribed for schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorders, acute psychosis, mania and severe agitation or aggression. It is also used to control tics and vocal outbursts in Tourette syndrome, and sometimes for severe behavioural problems in hyperactive children when other treatments have failed. Haloperidol works by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain, restoring the balance of neurotransmitters. This helps reduce hallucinations, delusions, disorganized thinking and hostility, so patients can think more clearly and take part in daily life. The usual adult dose is one tablet once or twice daily, with or without food, though the prescriber sets the dose individually. Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, difficulty urinating and sleep disturbance. Movement problems (stiffness, tremor, restlessness) and QT prolongation can occur, so ECG monitoring may be needed. It is not approved for dementia-related psychosis because of increased mortality risk. Stop it and seek urgent help if fever, muscle rigidity or confusion develops, which may signal neuroleptic malignant syndrome. Avoid alcohol and use caution when driving. It must be taken only under medical supervision and should not be stopped abruptly.
