Co-Amoxiclav Dry Syrup 156.25mg/5ml is a broad-spectrum pediatric antibacterial suspension combining amoxicillin (as trihydrate) and clavulanic acid (as potassium clavulanate) in a 60ml volume. Every 5ml of the reconstituted liquid delivers 125mg of amoxicillin, a penicillin-type antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, and 31.25mg of clavulanic acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects amoxicillin from enzymatic degradation by beta-lactamase-producing resistant bacteria. This formulation is indicated for mild-to-moderate bacterial infections in younger infants and children, including acute otitis media, tonsillitis, sinusitis, lower respiratory tract infections, and skin or soft tissue infections. The dry powder must be reconstituted by adding cooled, boiled water up to the marked fill line, shaken vigorously, and stored strictly in a refrigerator (2°C–8°C), with any unused portion discarded after 7 to 10 days. Dosage is determined by the child's body weight and infection severity. It should be administered at the start of a meal to optimize clavulanic acid absorption and mitigate gastrointestinal distress. It is strictly contraindicated in patients with penicillin hypersensitivity or a history of drug-induced hepatic impairment. Common adverse effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and diaper thrush.
