Azomax 25ml Suspension (200mg/5ml) is an oral macrolide antibiotic formulation containing azithromycin (as dihydrate). It exerts its antimicrobial effect by binding reversibly to the 50S ribosomal subunit of susceptible target microorganisms. This action blocks transpeptidation and translocation, effectively inhibiting RNA-dependent protein synthesis and halting bacterial growth. Azithromycin offers an extended tissue half-life and excellent cellular penetration, providing therapeutic efficacy against a broad spectrum of atypical, Gram-positive, and Gram-negative pathogens.Clinically, Azomax suspension is predominantly indicated for treating mild-to-moderate pediatric and adult systemic bacterial infections. These include acute bacterial otitis media, community-acquired pneumonia, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, acute bacterial sinusitis, and uncomplicated skin structure infections.The standard pediatric dosage is 10mg/kg administered orally as a single daily dose for 3 consecutive days, or tailored over 5 days depending on the clinical severity. It must be shaken thoroughly before administration and can be taken independently of food intake.It is strictly contraindicated in patients with a history of cholestatic jaundice or hepatic dysfunction associated with prior azithromycin use, or macrolide hypersensitivity. Common side effects include diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and transient flatulence.
