Axium Syrup 250mg/5ml

Axium Syrup (250mg/5mL) is a broad-spectrum cephalosporin antibacterial oral liquid suspension containing cefuroxime axetil (250mg per 5mL). It exerts a potent bactericidal effect by binding irreversibly to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) located within the inner bacterial cell wall. This binding inhibits the transpeptidation enzymes responsible for cross-linking peptidoglycan polymers, disrupting structural synthesis and causing rapid bacterial cell autolysis. It demonstrates high stability against beta-lactamase degradation, maintaining strong in vitro activity against key Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens. Clinically, Axium Syrup is indicated for pediatric and adult patients for managing mild-to-moderate systemic bacterial infections. Primary indications include acute otitis media, acute bacterial sinusitis, streptococcal pharyngitis, tonsillitis, community-acquired lower respiratory tract infections, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and superficial skin structure infections. Dosage is determined primarily by patient weight and infection severity. The reconstituted suspension should be shaken vigorously before each use and administered with or immediately after food to optimize oral bioavailability and reduce gastrointestinal distress. It is strictly contraindicated in patients with known severe cephalosporin or beta-lactam hypersensitivity. Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and transient skin rash.
